The Scene

 Beginner acting course for adults

Develop your acting skills, connect to your partner, learn your craft

Darlo Drama's beginners acting, Level Two, introduces the process of working on a scene with another actor. This investigation into naturalistic acting & drama techniques will help you to connect more organically to a scene partner and given circumstance, and equip you with the technical skills to develop and evolve a performance with a partner.

These techniques will enable you to interpret dialogue, understand relationship, listen and respond to a scene partner, and uncover meaning and depth from a script. The further development of character and relationship is also explored during classes.

One class per week over eight sessions with a performance at the end to family and friends.

Our Level TWO course operates from various locations in New South Wales and Victoria, where we create a safe space for you to have lots of fun, meet new people and connect to your creativity.

Course overview

The first few weeks of Level Two are spent exploring theatre and acting techniques through the use of drama games, activities and improvisation exercises.

You will begin to apply given circumstances to the development of character and relationship, and experience how a performance evolves and develops when a scene partner talks back!

What will I learn?

Our 8 session level TWO course dives into foundational acting techniques which develop performance craft of listening, responding and evolving a performance with a scene partner.

You'll:

  • Learn to develop character and relationship
  • Learn how to relate to another actor and their character
  • Build techniques to integrate blocking and director's feedback
  • Take part in the performance of a two-hander scene at the end of the course

The course covers a range of topics, including playing actions and objective, obstacles and relationships, given circumstances & beats, subtext, characterisation and engagement with your partner.

What is the Darlo Drama difference?

Darlo Drama is Australia's leading acting school for adult beginners and we have proudly been delivering courses since 1992.

We are specialists in adult education, and we understand that our students come from a range of backgrounds, experiences and learning styles.

We know most adults who come to a beginners acting course may feel nervous and apprehensive, so all of our approaches are gentle, supportive and encouraging.

Acting is a wonderful way for adults to build confidence, feel more comfortable in their own skin, and step out of their “9 to 5” heads and awaken their creativity.
