Develop your acting skills, connect to your partner, learn your craft
Darlo Drama's beginners acting class, Level Two, is an investigation into naturalistic acting & drama techniques that will make your performances more convincing.

These techniques will enable you to interpret dialogue, understand relationship, listen and respond to a scene partner, and uncover meaning and depth from a script. The further development of character and relationship is also explored during classes.

Level Two course overview
The first few weeks of Level Two are spent exploring theatre and acting techniques through the use of drama games, activities and improvisation exercises. Once the scripts are handed out that’s when it gets interesting as you will be working with a scene partner and find out what happens on stage when someone talks back!

In Level Two, our expert teachers will take you on a new journey, extending and bulding upon the skills you have developed in Level One. You will work on a scene with a partner, develop character, take direction, integrate blocking and stage craft, and learn how to relate to another actor and their character.

Through the building of deeper, more authentic approaches to connecting to others you will begin to experience the collaboration of building a scene with a partner. By embracing a spirit of bravery and generosity you will find a greater sense of confidence and craft in your acting.
Beginners acting, Level Two course focus

Playing an action and objective, obstacles & relationships, given circumstances & beats, subtext, characterisation and engagement of your partner.
Level Two course outcome
At the conclusion of the course you will perform your scene to an audience of family, friends & fellow students on the Darlo Drama stage.
What is the Darlo Drama difference?
  • Darlo Drama is Australia’s leading acting school for adult beginners and we have proudly been delivering courses since 1992.
  • We are specialists in adult education, and we understand that our students come from a range of backgrounds, experiences and learning styles.
  • We know that most adults who come to a beginners acting course may feel nervous and apprehensive, so all of our approaches are gentle, supportive and encouraging.
  • We believe acting is a wonderful way for adults to build confidence, to feel more comfortable in their own skin, and to step out of their “9 to 5” heads and to awaken their creativity.
The Beginners Acting Journey
Our Beginners Acting Course Journey aims to develop and extend on acting skills across three levels of training. Each level is a pre-requisite to the next, with distinct learning outcomes which build upon each other across a methodical and crafted learning pathway.

Level One – The Monologue (8 sessions including 1 performance) Learn the basics of acting, play drama games, improvise, create a character and perform a monologue

Level Two – The Scene (9 sessions including 1 performance) Work with a partner to develop relationship on stage, listen and respond to evolve a performance, and perform with a partner in a scene

Level Three – The Story (11 sessions including 2 performances) Explore the arc of a story, develop a variety of characters, and perform multiple roles in a range of performance texts.

Whilst you can complete the three levels in your own time, the skills of acting are best developed where you complete all levels of the Beginners Acting Course Journey within a 12 to 18 month period. This allows for the ongoing and consistent development of skills and knowledge over time. If you have previous experience you may be eligible to enter into the program at a higher level.
